The code that applies, and the one that does not
Sarasota is not in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, which covers only Miami-Dade and Broward. Coastal Sarasota carries an ultimate design wind speed in roughly the 150 mile per hour range for typical homes under the Florida Building Code wind provisions, and most of the county, especially near the coast, sits in the wind-borne debris region.
